Tejeda (800m) & Widgins (Triple Jump) Win Individual State Championships; Tigers Finish Second at CCCAA Championships

SAN DIEGO -- Paced by the individual state championship victories by Crystal Tejeda in the 800-meter run and by Destinee Widgins in the triple jump, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's track and field team finished in second place at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Track and Field Championships last Friday-Saturday (May 20-21) at Merrill Douglas Stadium on the San Diego Mesa College.

Riverside City compiled 80 points to finish behind defending state champion Cerritos College, which tallied 92 points. In 2015, RCC finished third in the state with 65 points.

Tejeda -- who is pictured -- is a sophomore from Riverside (Norte Vista HS '14). She recorded the fastest time in the state this season in the 800-meter run (2:10.59).

Widgins, a frosh from San Jacinto (San Jacinto HS '15), won the triple jump with a mark of 12.18 meters.

Also on Saturday (May 21), RCC frosh Madison McPeak (Riverside / M.L. King HS '15) placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.47 meters.

On Friday's final event of the day, RCC sophomore Brianna Jacklin (Riverside / M.L. King HS '14) placed second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 36:45.19. Jacklin was this season's SoCal champion last weekend and finished third in the state in 2015.
