Jacklin Wins Twice, Tigers Take Second at SoCal Championships

LANCASTER -- Brianna Jacklin and Destinee Widgins won individual championships and the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's track and field team finished second in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California (SoCal) Championships which were hosted at Antelope Valley College (AVC) Saturday (May 14).

Riverside City compiled 128.5 points, finishing only behind the first-place Cerritos College Falcons (161 points). Placing third was Mt. San Antonio College (88 points), followed by West Los Angeles College (73) and College of the Canyons (59).

In addition to her win in the 10,000-meter run the previous Saturday (May 7) at the SoCal Preliminaries, which were also hosted at AVC, the sophomore Jacklin (Riverside / M.L. King '14) won the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:19.84. Also emerging victorious in the SoCal Finals Saturday was frosh Destinee Widgins (San Jacinto / San Jacinto HS '15), who won the triple jump with a new P.R. (personal record) of 12.39 meters (40' 8").

Looking ahead, the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Championships will be held on Friday-Saturday, May 20-21, at San Diego Mesa College, beginning at 10 a.m.

In the 10,000-meter run, sophomore Brianna Jacklin (Riverside / M.L. King '14) won the race (38:03.60) to gain ten (10) points toward RCC's team total.

In the heptathlon, a trio of Tigers placed sixth or better, gaining team points toward RCC's total. Frosh Karla Alatorre (Torreon, MX / Andrews Osborne [OH] HS) placed third (4,043 points) to garner six (6) points, frosh Aaliyah Goshen (Jurupa Valley / Patriot HS '13) finished fifth (3,745 points) to add four (4) points toward RCC's team total and sophomore Diamond Scott (Moreno Valley / Vista del Lago HS '13) was sixth (3,743 points) and contributed three (3) points toward RCC's team total.
