Tigers Women Win 14 of 21 Events, Win Sixth Straight OEC Crown

COSTA MESA -- Winning 14 of 21 events, the the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's track and field team won the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championship Finals in convincing fashion last Friday (Apr. 29) at Orange Coast College (OCC).

It was RCC's sixth consecutive OEC crown and the Tigers achieved 344.5 points, eclipsing the OEC record of 324 points set by RCC in 2013.

Riverside finished well ahea dof second-place OCC (220.5 points), followed by Saddleback (84.5), Fullerton (50), Golden West (26.5) and Santa Ana (15).

Four Tigers won a pair of individual OEC championships: sophomore Tiarah McDaniels (Perris / Paramount HS '14 / Cerritos CC) won the 100-meter dash (:12.51) and the 200-meter dash (:25.19); sophomore Crystal Tejeda (Riverside / Norte Vista '14) won 800-meter run (2:28.62) and the 1500-meter run (4:47.95); sophomore Brianna Jacklin (Riverside / M.L. King '14); and sophomore Richelle Kafoa (Riverside / Banning - Banning '14) won the shot put (12.47 meters) and the hammer throw (41.82 meters).

Other individual event champions from RCC included frosh Karla Alatorre (Torreon, MX / Andrews Osborne [OH] HS), who won the high jump (1.61 meters), frosh Madison McPeak m(Riverside / M.L. King HS), who won the pole vault (3.24 meters), frosh Destinee Widgins (San Jacinto / San Jacinto '15), who won the triple jump (11.99 meters), and sophomore Ashley Santos (Lake Elsinore / Elsinore '14), who won the discus throw (40.85 meters).

RCC also won the 4x100-meter relay (:49.56) and the 4x400-meter relay (4:06.63).

 

Riverside City will next prepare for the SoCal Preliminaries which will be held on Friday, May 6, at Antelope Valley College beginning at 9 a.m. The SoCal Finals will be held on Friday-Saturday, May 13-14, also at Antelope Valley College, beginning at 9 a.m.

Looking ahead, the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Championships will be held on Friday-Saturday, May 20-21, at San Diego Mesa College, beginning at 10 a.m.
