Women’s Tennis Competes against the State’s Best in 3C2A Championships

The Riverside City College women's tennis team participated in the 2023 3C2A Individual State Championships in Ojai, CA this past Thursday through Saturday. The Tiger's efforts found multiple participants breezing through the bracket to highlight an exciting three-day event.

DOUBLES

Sophomore Susana Iniguez and freshman Kaden Richards earned a first-round bye to highlight the top spot for the Tigers. They entered into the second round as the heavy favorite and did not disappoint leading to a 6-0, 6-1 win. They followed with a third-round win as their opponents exited due to injury. They eventually fell in the round of 16, 1-6, 1-6.

Freshman Monica Carrillo and sophomore Adrielle Fotchi teamed up and earned a commanding first-round win by the final score of 6-2, 6-0. However, they fell victim to a two-set loss in the following round.  Sophomore Haley Dunkel and freshman Christa McDowell linked up and earned a first-round win by defaults, but ultimately fell in the second round 0-6, 1-6.

SINGLES

Iniguez earned a first-round win in a three-set thriller after dropping the opening set, 4-6. She roared back to take the final two sets, 6-4, 6-3. Carrillo cruised to a first-round win by the final score of 6-0, 6-1, but was bested in two sets in the following round.

Fotchi earned a first-round bye, but fell in a quick two-set match by the final score of 2-6, 1-6. Richards fell in the opening round by the final score of 7-5, 1-6.
