Women’s Tennis Lands Handful in Final Round of OEC Championships

The Riverside City women's tennis team hosted the opening round of the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Singles and Doubles Championships on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers advanced two double's duos to the next round, while sending three singles players to Friday action.

DOUBLES

Freshman Kaden Richards and sophomore Susana Iniguez faced off against Cypress in the first round and made quick work by completing an 8-1 victory. Sophomore Haley Dunkel and freshman Christa McDowell advanced to the second round due to injury to round out the winners. Sophomore Adrielle Fotchi and freshman Monica Carillo were bested by Saddleback by the final score of 8-4.

SINGLES

Richards, the highest ranked singles player for the Tigers, earned a first-round bye and faced off against Saddleback's Emily West. She worked a three-set victory by the final scored of 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 in a thrilling three-set decider.

Carrillo continued her hot play by winning two matches, starting with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over OCC's Camila Nelson. She continued on to defeat Cypress' Shellah Gabasan and advance to the next round due to injury.

Fotchi won her opening match by the final count of 6-2, 6-0, but fell int eh second round in a three-set thriller.
