Women’s Tennis Routs Saddleback in Conference Action

The Riverside City College women's tennis program has been on a tear by winning its last eight contests by a significant spread. They entered into their second Orange Empire Conference (OEC) showdown on Tuesday by playing host to the Saddleback College Gauchos. The Tigers outshined the Gauchos on all fronts as seen in a 9-0 victory.

Riverside proved to be much too strong as each singles victory was won in two sets. Sophomore Maxelle Bernie was responsible for a 6-0, 6-0 win at the top spot, while sophomore Torrey Mateljan followed with an identical score as the number two singles player.

Sophomore Hannah Stevenson worked her way to a 6-0, 6-0 win as the number three, while freshman Monica Madrid followed with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph as the fourth singles player. Freshman Alex Weatherly capped the singles victories with a 6-0, 6-0 win as the fifth singles player.

Bernie and Mateljan linked up as the top doubles squad and earned an 8-0 win, while freshman Keeley Arendt and Weatherly followed with an 8-1 win. Madrid and Stevenson won via forfeit.
