Tigers Win OEC Championship, Finfrock Named OEC Coach of the Year
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Winning four individual events and three relays, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's swimming and diving team won the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships by 90 points than its closest competition this past weekend (April 20-22) at host Golden West College.
Last Saturday (Apr. 22), Riverside won two individual events and one relay to secure the OEC crown.
RCC sophomore sophomore Mary Myers (Riverside - M.L. King HS '15) won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.68. On Friday (Apr. 21), Myers set a RCC record in the 100-yard backstroke (:58.2).
RCC sophomore Emily Martin (Yucaipa - Yucaipa HS '15) won and set both RCC and OEC records in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:27.30 last Saturday (Apr. 21). On Friday (Apr. 21), Martin won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.10).
On Saturday (Apr. 22), the Tigers won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:36.60) with Martin, sophomore Citlali Salazar (Eastvale - Eleanor Roosevelt HS '15), sophomore Jacqueline Johnson (Temescal Canyon HS '15) and Myers doing the honors.
In Friday's (Apr. 21) action, the Tigers won three of eight events. The RCC women (Martin, Kelly Perez (Riverside / John W. North HS), Johnson, Salazar) set a RCC record in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:58.67), but finished second to Orange Coast (7:56.52).
Finfrock was named OEC Coach of the Year.
The Tigers will be back in action in 2 weeks at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Championships.
