Dunkerson is State Champion in 1-meter Dive; Makes Amends for 2015 Runner-up Finish

MONTEREY PARK -- After placing second last year, Emily Dunkerson won the one-meter diving event at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Championships in the first day of competition (Thursday, May 5) at the Natatorium on the campus of East Los Angeles College (ELAC).

Dunkerson, a sophomore from Riverside / Martin Luther King, Jr. HS, won the one-meter dive with 184.90 points. In 2015, she was second, finishing .65 behind first place.

She is expected to compete and place highly in the three-meter diving event later this weekend.

Dunkerson won the one-meter dive with 220.10 points and won the three-meter dive with 220.75 points at the OEC Championships (Apr. 21-23). For her efforts, Dunkerson received OEC Diver of the Year honors.

Through six events, RCC is ninth in the team standings with 61 points. Orange Empire Conference (OEC) opponent, Orange Coast College currently leads with with 161.5 points, followed by Sierra College (118 points). Las Positas and Santa Barbara City are tied for third with 90.5 points and the College of San Mateo is fifth with 83 points.

The Tigers will continue competition in the CCCAA Championships through Saturday, May 7.
