Riverside Romps to Big Win in Chaffey Invitational

RIVERSIDE -- The Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's swimming and diving team dominated the competiton in the Chaffey Invitational which was held at the Riverside Aquatics Center last weekend (March 7-8) on the RCC campus.

Riverside won the event with 884 points, followed the Mt. San Antonio College (MSAC) Mounties (633), the San Diego Mesa College Olympians (479), the Grossmont College Griffins (391) and the "host" Chaffey College Panthers (365) to round out the top five.

According to RCC head coach Doug Finfrock:

"Diver Aimee Bruns led the way winning 1-meter diving by over 50 points and winning the 3-meter diving by over 100 points.  Tiffanie Perez had a stellar weekend as she finished 3rd in the 500 free (5:28.01), 2nd in the 50 butterfly (28.47), 2nd in the 1650 free (18:48.12) and 2nd in the 100 butterfly (1:02.00). 

"The 100 IM was a strong event for the Tigers as Lauren Carter, Keonni Obert, Emmie Betz, and Katie Holmes finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively.  All of the women posted a time of 1:04 and were separated by less than .50 seconds.  Holmes also finished strong in the 200 IM posting a time of 2:20.71 and finishing 3rd. 

"The Tigers 400 freestyle relays were looking very good as they finished 2nd and 3rd with times of 3:52.74 and 3:56.34.

The Tigers are back in action at home on Friday, Mar. 14, against Orange Empire Conference-rival Orange Coast at 1 p.m.
