Riverside Boasts Strong Numbers from Long Range in Win over Grossmont

After coming off a tough three-game losing streak against top teams in the state, the Riverside City College women's basketball team looks to begin a new winning streak against the Grossmont College Griffins in the final day of the Santa Ana Crossover. Despite a late-game surge from the Griffins, Riverside utilized sharp shooting from downtown leading to a 79-60 victory.

Riverside limited turnovers and was effective from long range – something that that have failed to do in the recent past. They committed 17 turnovers which is the second-lowest mark this season. Minimal turnovers led to strong shooting beyond the arc as seen in a 39.1 percentage – the Tigers strongest mark this season.

Freshman forward Regenus Gates hit a season-high four threes leading to 15 points. She has landed in double digit scoring eight times this season. Fellow freshman Rebecca London followed with a pair of triples to match her 15 points. She was two rebounds shy of a double-double.

Sophomore guard Trinity Vasquez was the anchor to the offense as she bucketed a game-high 23 points on a 9-for-14 shooting mark. All of her shots came inside the arc. She was a flawless 5-for-5 from the line as well. In addition, she hit the boards for eight rebounds and dished out five assists.

Freshman Asia Anderson clocked 32 minutes in her fifth-consecutive start. She was two points and two rebounds shy of a double-double.

Riverside (8-5) will begin conference play against the Cypress College Chargers on Wednesday, January 8 at 5 p.m.
