Riverside Throttles Orange Coast in Conference Action

The Riverside City College women's basketball team hosted the Orange Coast College Pirates on Friday night in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play in hunt for their fifth win in the last six games. The Tigers took control of the contest from the get-go and did not look back after scoring 26 points in the first quarter. They went on to dominant the contest and haul in a 87-59 win.

Riverside shot 43 percent from the floor highlighted by a 41.1 three point percentage. Furthermore, they outrebounded Orange Coast 60-46 and dished out 25 assists to the Pirates' three.

The Tigers held a lead as large as 28 points in the game while the Pirates were not even close to snagging an advantage. They scored 40 points in the paint and 14 points off second chance opportunities.

Riverside saw four players land in double-digit scoring to prove their utter dominance from top to bottom. Sophomore forward Dayna Dewitt recorded a double-double on the night by flushing 24 points and racking up 11 boards. Sophomore guard Adriana Garcia utilized a4-for-7 mark from downtown leading to 16 points. Furthermore, she dished out five assists and pocketed one steal.

Freshman guard tandem Trinity Vasquez and Dyani Brewer each scored 15 points, while freshman guard Vanessa Vargas chipped in nine points off of the bench.

Riverside (11-10, 7-3 OEC) will continue action on Tuesday, February 12 on the road to take on Irvine Valley College at 7 p.m.
