Riverside Snaps Two-Game Skid in Win over West Hills-Lemoore

The Riverside City College women's basketball team hit the road on Friday afternoon to face off against the West Hill-Lemoore College Golden Eagles in the first round of the Palomar College Tournament. After dropping their last two contests, the Tigers rebounded to defeat the Golden Eagles supported by four Tigers landing in double-digit scoring.

In a contest that saw only five lead changes and a pair of ties, Riverside was lights out on the offensive end leding to a season-best 43.3 shooting percentage. They thrived from beyond the arc as seen in a 53.8 shooting percentage from long range to overcome a 10-point deficit.

Riverside dropped 30 points in the paint highlighted by a 19-point effort from sophomore forward Dayna Dewitt. She was 7-for-16 from the floor and crashed the boards for seven rebounds – three coming on the offensive end. She was swift on the defense with five steals as well.

Dewitt was one of four players to notch double-digit points with freshman guard Vanessa Vargas coming off of the bench and scoring a career-high 16 points. She was 4-for-6 from three-point land and dished out three assists in the process. Freshman guard Trinity Vasquez followed with 12 points in a well-rounded effort. She dished out three assist and reeled in four rebounds.

Freshman Dyani Brewer contributed 10 points, while sophomore tandem Adriana Garcia and Kierra Roberts combined for nine points and eight rebounds.

Riverside (2-3) will continue action on Saturday, November 17 in the second round of the Palomar Tournament. The opponent and time is to be determined. Stay tuned to www.rccathletics.com for further details.
