Playoff Preview: No. 15 Women’s Basketball Set to Host No. 18 San Bernardino in CCCAA Regional Playoffs

Following a third-place showing in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC), the Riverside City College women's basketball team earned a California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional playoff berth as the 15th seed and will host the 18th seeded San Bernardino Valley College Wolverines this Wednesday, February 21st at 7 p.m. in Wheelock Gymnasium.

Tickets will be sold at $12 for general admission. All faculty, staff, students, fans over 60 years old, and children under 12 years old will be charged $8 for admission. The Tigers earned an overall record of 19-9 that included a conference record of 10-4. They have earned an overall record of 8-2 at home and have won three of their last four games. They held a seven-game winning streak early in the season that included their first two conference victories.

Leading the way for the Tigers is sophomore guard Dejah Wright (Moreno Valley, CA) who is averaging 17.9 points-per-game in 28 games started. Wright flushed a career high 44 points against Grossmont earlier in the season that snapped RCC's single-game scoring record. She began the season on a 13-game double-digit scoring streak and notched 25 double-digit scoring games. She was recently named to the OEC's First-Team Al-Conference list.

Sophomore forward Joana Adams (Palm Springs, CA), who was named to the OEC First-Team All-Conference list and named a CCCAA Third-Team All-State member, has been a consistent threat for the Tigers after earning a points-per-game mark of 14.4 which ranks second on the team. She is second on the team with 8.1 rebounds-per-game in 28 games played. Sophomore center Darricka Hewitt (Riverside, CA) is nearly averaging a double-double per game as she paces her team with an average of 10 rebounds-per-game and has earned a mark of 9.2 points-per-game.

Freshman guard Kimari Hollis (Moreno Valley, CA) is the tone setter on offense by earning 14.3 points-per-game, 5.1 assists-per-game, and 1.9 steals-per-game. She leads her team in steals (50) and assists (137).  She was also named to the OEC All-Conference Second-Team.

San Bernardino earned an overall record of 15-12 that included a 3-5 conference mark. They are 4-6 on the road. They held two separate three-game winnings streaks on the season.

Sophomore point guard Brianne Cheatum paces the Wolverines with 17.6 points-per-game to compliment a 42.4 shooting percentage. Furthermore, she paces her team with 4.2 assists-per-game and 3.2 steals-per-game.

Sophomore guard Brittan Cheatum follows with 12.1 points-per-game, while freshman guard Patience Hopkins chips in 8.9 points-per-game.
