Women’s Basketball Sees Trio Haul in All-Conference Honors, Adams Named to All-State Squad

Following a third-place showing in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) and earning a California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional playoff berth, the Riverside City College women's basketball team saw a trio of athletes be named to the OEC All-Conference squad. Sophomore forward Joana Adams (Palm Springs, CA) and sophomore guard Dejah Wright (Moreno Valley, CA) were first-team all-conference, while freshman guard Kimari Hollis (Moreno Valley, CA) reeled in second-team all-conference accolades.

Adams started in all 14 conference games she played and averaged 15.5 points-per-game which ranked 10th in conference. She boasted a shooting percentage of 39.4 and landed in double-digit scoring in all but one conference showdown. The sophomore sensation flushed a season-high 24 points against Cypress in early January. She recorded five double-doubles on the year - all coming in consecutive games. All but two of her double-doubles came in a victory. She also ranked ninth in rebounds-per-game with 9.2.

Furthermore, Adams was named to the CCCAA Third-Team All-State team after averaging 14.4 points-per-game and 8.1 rebounds-per-game in 28 games played.

Wright earns first-team honors after stringing together a strong conference campaign. After breaking the single-game scoring record with a 44 point showing against Grossmont in early November, her scoring habits trickled into her conference campaign by averaging 17.7 points per game, thus ranking her fourth in conference. Wright, a prolific three-point shooter, landed in double-digit scoring 12 times on the season and score 20 or more points in eight contests. She finished with a conference-high 27 points in a 20-point victory over Santa Ana on January 5th.  She shot 35.8 percent from beyond the arc and drained a total of 248 points on the year.

Hollis was arguably one of the most well-rounded point guards in the OEC as she worked her way to a second-team all-conference recognition. In 13 conference games, she averaged 16 points-per-game, 5.8 assists-per-game, and 2.8 steals-per-game. From January 17th on, Hollis notched double-digit points in every contest she played highlighted by a 26 point showing in a victory over Saddleback. She followed with a 23-point game against Fullerton and finished the season with a 23-point outburst against No. 8 Irvine Valley.

The Tigers will host the San Bernardino Valley College Wolverines at home on Wednesday, February 21st in a CCCAA Regional Play-In game at 7 p.m. in Wheelock Gym. The winner will advance to the first round of the CCCAA playoffs and play No. 2 Mt San Jacinto College.
