Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Orange Coast in Conference Opener

The south's 15^th ranked Riverside City College women's basketball team faced off against the Orange Coast College Pirates on Wednesday night in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) opener on their home hardwood.  Riverside dominated the contest in all facets leading to a commanding 76-58 victory to push their record to 10-5.

The Tigers halted the Pirates to just 18 points in the first half. They did not reach double-digits in either period. Riverside owned the paint in every way thus establishing a dominant tone. Riverside out rebounded Orange Coast 64-47 and finished with 30 points in the paint to the Pirates' mere eight points. Each team had the same number of turnovers, but the Tigers capitalized off of the turnovers turning them into 14 points – 10 coming from fast breaks.

The Tigers had the contest set to cruise control nearly the entire game after holding a lead as large as 21 points. All but one starter landed in double-digit scoring with sophomore guard Dejah Wright (Moreno Valley, CA) pacing the pack with 21 points marking her 14^th game she has landed in double-digits.

Sophomore forward Joana Adams (Palm Springs, CA) did it all in the victory by earning a double-double. She flushed 15 points and hauled in a season-high 14 boards. Freshman forward Dayna Dewitt (Mansfield, CA) was a pair of rebounds shy from a double-double by dropping 12 points and recording eight rebounds. The offense was running efficiently through freshman point guard Kimari Hollis (Moreno Valley, CA) who finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists.

The Tigers (10-5, 1-0 OEC) will continue action on Friday, January 5^th by playing host to the Santa Ana College Dons (6-7, 1-0 OEC) at home at 7 p.m.
