Dewitt, Hewitt Notch Double-Doubles in Victory over LA Southwest

After being deemed the southern regions 15th-ranked squad in the latest California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCWBCA), the Riverside City College women's basketball squad hit the road for its first game of the Glendale Crossover against LA Southwest on Wednesday afternoon. After facing a nine-point deficit following the opening 10 minutes, the Tigers clawed back and reigned supreme by the final score of 81-67.

The Tigers owned the paint which led to high-percentage opportunities. They dominated the boards by outrebounding LA Southwest 56-37, thus leading to 32 points in the paint and a free throw percentage of 79.5.

All five starters landed in double-digits after the bench only chipped in a total of eight points. Freshman forward Dayna Dewitt (Mansfield, CA) put together her strongest offensive showing of the season by dropping a game-high 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds, thus leading to her third double-double of the season. Her points total acted as a season high, while her rebound tally was tied for the second highest on the season.

Sophomore forward Darricka Hewitt (Riverside, CA) was a menace down low by hauling in a season-high 16 rebounds – five coming on the offensive end. She flushed 11 points to earn a double-double. Sophomore forward Joana Adams (Palm Springs, CA) notched 15 points as she continues to quietly be one of the most efficient and effective players on the roster. It is her third-consecutive contest in which she has finished in double-digits.

The guard play was strong as well with freshman Kimari Hollis (Moreno Valley, CA) running the offensive with five assists and 11 points. Sophomore guard Dejah Wright (Moreno Valley, CA) finished with 11 points to go along with one blocked shot.

The Tigers (8-5) will continue action Thursday, December 21st against Glendale College at 3 p.m. Both teams met in the championship game in the Riverside "Earning Our Stripes" Tournament in early November where the Tigers defeated Glendale, 61-51.
