Cypress' Early Third-quarter 16-4 Run Keys Chargers' 74-69 Win Over RCC Tuesday

RIVERSIDE -- The Cypress College Chargers put together a 16-4 run early in the third quarter to erase a modest halftime deficit and kept the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's basketball team at bay en route to a 74-69 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) win over the hosts at RCC's Arthur N. Wheelock Gymnasium Tuesday night (Feb. 14).

Sylvia Garcia tossed in a team-high 18 points and pulled down a co-team-high seven rebounds to pace Cypress (22-6 overall, 10-1 OEC, first place). Alyssa Movchan added 12 points and Monique Mesa chipped in with ten points for the Chargers. Joi Bertrand had six points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots for Cypress.

For Riverside City (18-10 overall, 5-6 OEC, tied for third place), sophomore guard Chiderah Ozowuru (Eastvale - Eleanor Roosevelt HS '14) pumped in a game-high 20 points and added six assists and five rebounds. Frosh forward Darria Hewitt (Patriot HS '16) came off the bench to score 16 points and yank down 13 rebounds for RCC.

Both teams will play on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. in the regular season finale. Cypress will visit the Santa Ana College Dons while RCC will host the Irvine Valley College Lasers.
