BAKERSFIELD -- Winning a pair of games at the Bakersfield Crossover event, the 2016-17 Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's basketball team is undefeated as it hosts its Third Annual E.O.S. (Earning Our Stripes) Tournament later this week.
Riverside City (2-0 overall) opened its 2016-17 campaign with a 86-73 win over the host Bakersfield College Renegades last Thursday (Nov. 3) before posting a 65-63 win over the Antelope Valley College Marauders last Friday (Nov. 4).
Leading the way for the Tigers were frosh guard Chiderah Uzowuru (Eastvale / Eleanor Roosevelt HS '14), sophomore point guard Britney Gonzalez (Fontana / Jurupa Hills HS '15) and sophomore forward Paradise Hanchett (Moreno Valley / Rancho Verde HS '15).
In the win over Bakersfield, and the Tigers led, 23-14, after the first quarter, 41-32 at halftime and 67-45 after three quarters. For RCC, Uzowuru poured in a game-high 23 points and pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds. Gonzalez added 16 points and Hanchett chipped in with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Against AVC, the Tigers led, 19-11, after the first quarter, 33-28 at halftime and 51-44 after three quarters. Uzowuru pumped in a team-high 15 points and added 12 rebounds, Gonzalez added 14 points and Hanchett chipped in with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Riverside will open the home portion of its schedule on Friday, Nov. 11, when it hosts its Third Annual E.O.S. (Earning Our Stripes) Tournament. The Tigers will host the Cerritos College Falcons in a 7 p.m. tipoff.
Elsewhere in the E.O.S. Tournament's opening round, the Santa Ana College Dons will face the Grossmont College Griffins at 1 p.m., the Solano College Falcons will meet the Glendale College Vaqueros at 3 p.m., and Bakersfield will take on the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners at 5 p.m.
