Visiting Orange Coast Prevails, 62-56, over Host Riverside in Conference Action Wednesday
RIVERSIDE -- Four starters scored in double figures to pace the visiting Orange Coast College (OCC) Pirates to a 62-56 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) victory over the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's basketball team Wednesday evening (Jan. 20) at RCC's historic Arthur N. Wheelock Gymnasium.
Riverside (13-8 overall, 3-2 OEC) kept itself in the game by outrebounding OCC, 52-34, but a couple of Pirates got hot at the right time to keep the Tigers at bay.
Frosh guard Chyann Pendergrass (Westminster HS) finished with a game-high 18 points on six of ten shooting, including six of eight on three-point field goals. Pendergrass also added a game-high 11 assists. Fresh forward Jenna Rodriguez (San Clemente HS) broke clear from some RCC defenders for a couple of key baskets en route to her ten points.
Frosh forward Sarah Nunes (Kimball HS) chipped in with 17 points and sophomore forward Sami Little (Fountain Valley HS) added 12 points for the Pirates (13-8 overall, 4-1 OEC).
For Riverside, frosh center Ronisha Daniels (Hemet / Heritage HS) made all seven of her field goal attempts enroute to a co-team-high 15 points. Daniels also pulled down a co-game-high ten rebounds and had four blocked shots. Frosh guard DoyleBonet Walker (Fontana / Summit HS) tossed in 15 points, and frosh guard Jacqueline Aparicio (Corona / Centennial HS) also yanked down ten caroms.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, Jan. 22, when they visit the Irvine Valley College Lasers in a 7 p.m. OEC tipoff to conclude RCC's first-round action before enjoying a bye next Wednesday, Jan. 27.
