RIVERSIDE -- DoyleBonet Walker made a jumper with 55 seconds to go and Britney Gonzalez added a layin with 23 seconds left to lift the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's basketball team to a 73-69 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) home win over the visiting Santa Ana College (SAC) Dons Wednesday evening (Jan. 6) at RCC's historic Arthur N. Wheelock Gymnasium.
Riverside (11-6 overall, 1-0 OEC) watched its biggest lead, 61-44, with 2:15 to play in the third quarter disappear into a 67-67 tie with 1:04 left in the game when Santa Ana guard Taylor Ivicenic drove for a layin. Ivicenic had ten of her game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter to spark the Dons' comeback. Blaysen Varnadoe added 11 points for SAC. Ivcenic and Varnadoe each had a team-high seven rebounds for Santa Ana (11-6, 0-1 OEC).
RCC frosh guard DoyleBonet Walker had a team-high 19 points and frosh center Paradise Hanchett added 11 points and a game-high 17 rebounds for the Tigers.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, Jan. 8, when they visit the Saddleback College Gauchos in a 7 p.m. OEC tipoff.
