Irvine Valley Keeps Tigers at Bay; IVC Wins, 54-47, at Riverside Tuesday Night

RIVERSIDE -- The Irvine Valley College (IVC) Lasers put together an 11-2 run midway through the second half and went on to post a 54-47 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) victory over the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's basketball team Tuesday night (Feb. 10) at RCC's historic Arthur N. Wheelock Gymnasium.

Irvine Valley (22-3, 9-0 OEC) reassumed the lead after Riverside sophomore guard Tierra Fuqua (Moreno Valley / Rancho Verde HS) drained a three-pointer to forge a 30-30 tie with 14:36 to play. During that 11-2 run, sophomore center Breanna Turner, who had only three points by halftime, scored five points en route to a team-high 14 points. Turner added seven rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals.

Frosh guards Tara Casey and Jordan Coleman, respectively, had nine and eight points for the Lasers. Coleman had five steals and Casey had three swipes.
 
For Riverside (16-10, 5-5 OEC), Fuqua finished with a game-high 16 points and seven rebounds, but only had one assist. Sophomore center Tori Mitchell (Riverside / Poly HS) added 15 points, pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds and had five blocked shots. Sophomore forward Ashley Davis (Riverside / John W. North HS) added three points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers.
 
Both teams return to action on Thursday, Feb. 12, in a pair of 7 p.m. tipoffs. Riverside will host Saddleback, while Irvine Valley will host Cypress.
