Tigers Win OEC Series With Hawks

Riverside City College won the Orange Empire Conference series against Santiago Canyon College after grabbing a 6-4 victory in the series finale Friday afternoon.

The Tigers improve to 10-20 overall and 3-9 in conference, while the Hawks drop to 9-19 on the year, 3-9 in the OEC.

Summer Sanders led the Tigers with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, while Guadalupe Lemus went 2-for-3. Four other Tigers had hits in the game: Sheila Fernanda Cano, Bobbi Arce, Elizabeth Sigala, and Raquel Razo.

Cano got things going on a high note, drilling a solo home run in the top of the first to put Riverside up early. The Tigers proceeded to load the bases and a rogue pitch sent another runner home before Santiago Canyon could get out of the inning.

The Hawks responded with three runs in the top of the second, but RCC took back its lead after Sigala blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the third, 5-3.

Sanders added some insurance in the fourth with an RBI single to score Arce before the Tiger defense sealed the victory in the seventh by taking the Hawks down in order.

Chloe Lockhart picked up the win in the circle for RCC, tossing three strikeouts and allowing just one unearned run in 5.2 innings of action.

Riverside looks to build on its budding win streak, hosting Santa Barbara City College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
