Tigers Get Bats Hot in Win Over Jaguars

Riverside City College broke a 10-game losing streak with a 4-1 nonconference victory over Southwestern College on Tuesday.

The Tigers improve to 8-19 on the year, while the Jaguars drop to 16-11 overall.

Riverside got its bats hot, out-hitting Southwestern 12-to-3. Summer Sanders (one run) and Brianna Burries (two RBIs) led the Tigers with 3-for-4 showings at the plate. Bobbi Arce finished 2-for-4 with two runs, while Rebeca Razo, Alysse Flores, Guadalupe Lemus, and Raquel Razo also had hits in the game.

The Tigers wasted little time and plated two runs in their first appearance at the plate. Flores knocked an RBI single to get things started before Samantha Sizemore walked in a run to put RCC up 2-0 early.

Southwestern responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning, but neither team could break through for the next five innings.

Riverside tacked on some insurance in the seventh as Burries doubled to send two Tigers in to cap the scoring and secure the 4-1 victory for the visitors.

Chloe Lockhart picked up the win in the circle for the Tigers, tossing three strikeouts and only allowing one earned run.

Riverside returns to Orange Empire Conference action on Tuesday, hosting Santiago Canyon College at 3 p.m.
