Softball Four Hit in Loss to Top-Ranked Palomar

The Riverside City College softball team welcomed the top-ranked Palomar College Comets to their home field on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference showdown. The game was scoreless through the first three innings, but the Tigers succumbed to a late Palomar surge leading to a 6-0 loss.

Freshman hurler Erika Gibbs took to the rubber and held the Comets scoreless through her first three innings. She utilized her defense as she forced three outs through the air in her first frame capped by a pop out in foul territory to freshman catcher Gulianna Danovaro. Sophomore right fielder Alexis Pelayo mad a highlight reel snag to kick off the game on a diving line drive to her right side.

She got two quick outs in her second inning, but a two out rally out her in a bind. She capped the inning with a groundout back to herself to maintain the tied score. He third inning she retired the side in order with two outs going to sophomore second baseman Sarah Franco-Colis.

Palomar etched their first run in the top of the fourth inning, followed by a back-breaking four spot in the top of the sixth inning eventual leading to a 6-0 loss.

The offense was non-existent for Riverside as they connected for a mere four hits.
