Haunting Second Inning Leads to Conference Loss

The Riverside City College softball team suffered their fourth-consecutive loss on and third-straight conference defeat. The Tigers fell to the Saddleback College Bobcats after they etched a seven-spot in the second inning leading to an 8-1 defeat.

Sophomore Carrah Van Houten took to the rubber and was knocked around for seven runs on three hits and three walks. The final nail in the coffin came on a two-out grand slam.

Freshman reliever Jazmine Lara entered and pitched very well by scattering just seven hits and allowing one run leading to a punch out.

Offensively, Riverside connected for nine hits, but left seven runners on base. Freshman shortstop Sophia Franco-Colis went 3-for-3 and scored the only run. Freshman right fielder Lea Aldana barreled the lone RBI hit in the fourth inning.

Freshman center fielder Janelle Malone recorded two hits for her first career multi hit game.

Riverside (6-10, 0-4 OEC) will continue action on a five game road stint starting with a OEC showdown against the Golden West College Rustlers on Friday, March 4 at 2 p.m.
