Riverside Shut Out in Home Opener

After a nearly two-year hiatus from the Evans Sports Complex, the Riverside City College softball team was back in action and hosted the Cerritos College Falcons in non-conference action. It was not the homecoming the Tigers were hoping for as they suffered a 10-0 run rule defeat.

Riverside was held to a mere two hits to the Falcons' eight hits. The Tigers' pitching staff issued 12 walks on the day.

Freshman starter Carrah Van Houten tossed three innings and allowed just one hit, but issued six free passes. Freshman reliever Jazmine Lara entered in the fourth inning, but did not have much luck in replacement. She allowed eight runs on seven hits while also issuing six walks.

Freshman duo Sarah Franco-Colis and Sophia Franco-Colis had the lone hits for the Tigers. Sa. Franco-Colis barreled an infield single in the second inning, while So. Franco-Colis connected for a two-bagger in the sixth inning.

Riverside (1-2) will hit the road for a double header hosted by Pasadena College on Friday, February 4 with their first game starting at 11 am against Pasadena. They will then face off against Bakersfield at 1 p.m.
