Softball Sees Trio of Tigers Earn All-Conference, Two Haul in All-SoCal Honors
The Riverside City College softball team placed fourth in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) after compiling a conference record of 12-9 which contributed to an overall record of 25-14. At season's end, the Tigers saw three OEC All-Conference award winners. Sophomore catcher Aeriel Carlson and sophomore third baseman Terri Nava earned first-team recognition, while sophomore pitcher Synphony Hall earned second team all-conference honors. In addition, Carlson and Nava were named to the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (CCCFCA) All-Southern California team.
Carlson received her second-straight first-team all-conference honor of her career after acting as a staple behind the dish and the heart of the Tiger's lineup. In conference play, Carlson earned a .379 batting average that encompassed a .449 on-base percentage and a whopping .939 slugging percentage. Her slugging percentage was tops in the conference. She also paced the conference in homeruns with 10 and RBI with 29. Additionally, she played in 20 games while barreling 25 hits, recording five doubles, and scoring 24 times.
Her accolades continued to pile in as she was named to the All-SoCal squad. Throughout the entire season, Carlson was ranked in the top-two in homeruns. She finished with 16 overall that placed her tied for second in the state at season's end. Furthermore, she ranked ninth overall in slugging percentage with a clip of .920. She posted an overall batting average of .366, an on-base percentage of .444, recorded 41 hits, and drove in a team-pacing 46 RBI in 112 at-bats.
Nava backs her with first-team all-conference accolades after acting as one of the strongest hitters in conference play for the Tigers. She earned a batting average of .420 after barreling 29 hits with a trio of those hits landing beyond the outfield wall. She also squared up seven doubles, drove in 24 RBI, and scored 16 times.
She followed with an All-SoCal team honor after pacing her team in average with .405 and doubles with 15. She possessed a slugging percentage of .659 credited to five homeruns and six extra-base hits. She was second on her team in RBI with 39 to attribute to her team-leading 51 base knocks. Furthermore, she displayed a sharp eye by drawing 18 walks and swiping four bags.
Hall rounds out the Tiger's award winners by earning a second-team all-conference recognition in her final season at Riverside. In 14 conference starts, she earned a record of 7-7 with four complete games. She earned a pair of saves as well. She boasted an ERA of 2.72 while striking out 31 batters in 82.1 innings pitched.
The Tigers have received the 11th seed in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Playoffs and will travel to sixth-seeded Bakersfield on Friday, May 4th for a best of three game series in the first round.
