Hall Tosses Complete-Game Shutout in Win Over Fullerton
The Riverside City College softball team continued Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action on the road Tuesday evening by facing off against the Fullerton College Hornets. Riverside rode a strong pitching performance from sophomore hurler Synphony Hall (Rialto, CA) and etched a crooked number in the fourth inning leading to a 4-0 victory.
Hall entered the circle for her 13th start of the season looking for her fourth-consecutive win. She retired the side in three innings and halted any threat for the Hornets to score.
Riverside relied on a timely top of the forth inning that saw four runs cross the plate. Freshman center fielder Kaylen Gomez (Riverside, CA) poked a single to the outfield, scoring freshman second baseman Breanna Ceballos (Ontario, CA). Sophomore left fielder Dayna Gutierrez (Hemet, CA) came around to score following an error by the center fielder on the same play.
Sophomore shortstop Kailee Gilbert (Moreno Valley, CA) and freshman third baseman Terri Nava (Yucca Valley, CA) followed with consecutive RBI base knocks, Nava's hit going for a two-bagger, to extend the Tiger's lead to 4-0.
Hall cruised through the following three frames by allowing a mere hit en route to the victory.
Hall earned her fourth-straight victory by tossing a complete-game shutout. She fanned just one batter, but only allowed three hits and issued one walk.
The top-three hitters in the Tigers order consisting of sophomore catcher Aeriel Carlson (Highland, CA), Gilbert, and Nava went 3-for-8 with two RBI, two walks and a run scored.
The Tigers (15-6, 6-2 OEC) have rallied off four-straight wins and will continue conference action on Friday, March 16th at 2 p.m. against the Orange Coast College Pirates at home.
