Palomar Blanks Riverside, 6-0; Tigers Host Orange Coast Wednesday Night

RIVERSIDE --  Brienna Dunckle went two for two with three runs scored and Tiare PaoPao socked a two-run home run to pace the visiting Palomar College Comets to a 6-0 non-conference win over the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers softball team Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 11) at Brown Field (Samuel C. Evans Park).

Palomar (20-10 overall) scored twice quickly for a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Comets sandwiched single runs in the second and seventh innings around a two-run output in the fifth when PaoPao blasted a 1-1 pitch over the center-field fence with Dunckle aboard. Dunckle also had a RBI single in the second inning.

Riverside City (17-15 overall) had only two hits: a single in the second by 2B Celina New and a single in the fifth by CF Megan Cartwright.

Palomar starting frosh RHP Crystal DesLauriers (San Marcos) went the distance to improve to 15-5. She walked five and struck out seven. RCC starting frosh RHP Synphony Hall -- who is pictured -- also went the distance as she allowed nine hits and six runs (earned) with three walks and zero strikeouts as her record leveled at 3-3.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 12, when Palomar visits the College of the Desert Roadrunners in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game and RCC hosts the Orange Coast College Pirates in an Orange Empire Conference game at 6 p.m.
