Cypress No-hits Riverside, Wins, 10-0, in Five Innings Friday

RIVERSIDE -- Jenny Vasquez went three for four and drove in three runs and Vanessa Ledesma pitched four of five no-hit innings as the Cypress College Chargers blanked the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's softball team, 10-0, in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game Friday (Mar. 24) at Brown Field (Samuel C. Evans Park), which was shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule.

Vasquez doubled home two runs in the second inning and added a RBI single in the fifth for undefeated Cypress (22-0, 11-0 OEC). Melanie Okazaki went two for two with three runs scored to aid the Chargers' cause.

Ledesma went the first 4.0 innings and was perfect through the first three frames. She saw Riverside (10-11 overall, 4-6 OEC) load the bases in the fourth on a pair of hit batters sandwiched around an infield fielding error, but the Tigers didn't score. Ledesma improved to 8-0 and had four strikeouts.

RCC starting sophomore LHP Emily Wilcox went the first 3.0 innings and allowed seven runs (all earned) on ten hits with one walk as her record fell to 1-3. Frosh RHP Synphony Hall hurled the final 2.0 innings and allowed three runs (none earned) on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

In its next action, Cypress will host the Mt. San Antonio College Mounties on Saturday, Mar. 25, in a non-conference double header beginning at 12 p.m. RCC returns to action on Wednesday, Mar. 29, when it visits the Santa Ana College Dons in an OEC game at 3 p.m.
