Four-run First Does In Tigers in 6-3 Home Loss to Mt. San Antonio Thursday

RIVERSIDE -- The Mt. San Antonio College (MSAC) Mounties erupted for four runs in the top of the first inning and it ended up being enough as the visitors posted a 6-3 non-conference win over the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's softball team Thursday (Feb. 2) at Brown Field (Samuel C. Evans Sports Complex).

Riverside City (1-1 overall) came up with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and had runners at second and third with the potential tying run at the plate when the game ended on a strikeout.

Mt. San Antonio (3-0) added single runs in the third and sixth innings. In between, RCC countered with a run in the third. Frosh SS Kayla Giannatasio (Corona - Santiago HS) socked a double to right-center field, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by frosh catcher Aeriel Carlson (Highland - Citrus Valley HS). 

Giannatasio went two for three with two runs to pace the Tigers. Six Mounties had two apiece, paced by Erin Mendoza who went two for three with two runs scored and two RBI.

RCC sophomore starting RHP Laura Mendez (Rialto - Carter HS '15) - who is pictured - went the distance. She allowed six runs (all earned) on 16 hits with zero walks and one strikeout as her record fell to 1-1. MSAC starting RHP Sarah Wapner and went the first 6-2/3 innings to gainm the win (1-0). Tiffany Kennedy logged the final two outs to gain her first save.

Riverside returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 4, when it treks to Santa Maria to face the host Allan Hancock College (AHC) Bulldogs in a 1:30 p.m. non-conference start.
