LaCroix Homers, But Riverside City Loses, 7-5, to Santiago Canyon Wednesday

LaCroix Homers, But Riverside City Loses, 7-5, to Santiago Canyon Wednesday

RIVERSIDE – Emili Olague socked a two-run home run in the first inning and added a sacrifice fly in the second to power the Santiago Canyon College (SCC) Hawks to a 7-5 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) road win over the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's fast-pitch softball team Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 20) at Brown Field (Samuel C. Evans Sports Complex).

Santiago Canyon (32-6, overall, 15-5 OEC) built leads of 2-0, 4-2, and 7-2 after 2-1/2 innings before keeping the host Tigers at bay as they scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.

Olague, a frosh 1B from Huntington Beach (Marina HS), smacked her 13th circuit clout of the season before adding a run-producing fly out in the second inning which gave SCC a 4-2 lead. Olague added an infield single in the fourth and a single to center field in the sixth as she went three for three including the home run and the sacrifice fly. She also scored one run and drove in three to pace the Hawks.

RCC sophomore catcher Hunter LaCroix (Norco / Norco HS '14) socked a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game at 2-2. Frosh SS Danielle Lopez (Redlands / Redlands East Valley HS '15) -- who is pictured -- went two for three with three runs scored to help Riverside City (14-21 overall, 6-13 OEC).

SCC starting sophomore RHP Riley Nahrwold (Fullerton / Sunny Hills HS) went the distance (7.0 innings) and allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and zero walks with one strikeout to improve to 12-4.

RCC starting frosh RHP Laura Mendez (Rialto / Wilmer Amina Carter HS '15) went the distance (7.0 innings) for the Tigers. She allowed seven runs (five earned) on 13 hits and three walks with one strikeout as her record fell to 8-14.

Riverside City returns to action Friday, Apr. 22, when it visits the Golden West College Rustlers in a 6 p.m. first pitch. Santiago Canyon will be idle until Wednesday, Apr. 27, when it hosts the first-place Cypress College Chargers at 3 p.m.
