Riverside Beats Chaffey, 7-2, in Non-conference Action Sunday

RIVERSIDE -- Emily Wilcox had success at the plate and in the curcle as the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's softball team posted a solid 7-2 non-conference win over the Chaffey College Panthers Sunday afternoon (Mar. 20) at Brown Field (Evans Sports Complex).

Wilcox, a frosh RHP from Alta Loma (Alta Loma HS '15), went the first 5.0 innings and allowed only one run (earned) on a pair of hits with one walk and three strikeouts to improve to 6-5. Wilcox also hit a RBI single in the bottom of the first inning which gave RCC a 2-0 lead and then ripped a RBI triple down the right-field line which gave RCC a 6-1 lead.

Riverside (12-11 overall) led, 2-0, 3-0, 3-1, 6-1, 6-2, and 7-2.

Sophomore C Hunter LaCroix (Norco / Norco HS '14) -- who is pictured -- gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead with a run-producing 4-3 ground out. In the fifth, she hit a routine ground ball to second base which was muffed for an error and enabled two Tigers to score.

Chaffey (18-7-1 overall) got on the board when frosh 1B Sabrina Gamboa (Chino) smashed the first pitch she saw for a solo home run over the left field fence. It was her third round tripper of the season. It could have amounted to more except that RCC turned a 5-4-3 double play right before her at bat.

Sophomore starting RHP Lena Carter-Scott (Alta Loma) went the first 2.0 innings for Chaffey. She allowed three runs (all earned) on three hits and three walks as her record fell to 8-3.

Riverside will return to Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action on Wednesday, Mar. 23, when it hosts the Santa Ana College (SAC) Dons in a 3 p.m. first pitch.

Chaffey will be idle until Friday, Mar. 25, when it travels to Barstow College for a Foothill Conference double header against the Vikings beginning at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
