A Pair of Three-run Innings Help Riverside Defeat Visiting East L.A., 8-1, Friday

RIVERSIDE -- Sophomore catcher Hunter LaCRoix (Norco HS) went three for three with one run scored and one RBI, and frosh LF Dani Melendez (Moreno Valley) went two for three with two runs scored and two RBI to pace the Riverside City College (RCC) women's fast-pitch softball team to an 8-1 non-conference home win over the visiting East Los Angeles College (ELAC) Huskies Friday afternoon, Feb. 5, at Brown Field at the Evans Sports Complex.

Frosh starting RHP Laura Mendez went the first 5.0 innings and allowed three hits, one run (unearned) with five walks and three strikeouts to improve to 2-0.

ELAC's losing pitcher was Byanka Diosdado (0-1). She went the first 5.0 innings and allowed all eight runs (all earned) on nine hits with six walks and four strikeouts. The Huskies tallied their only run of the game when Griselda Vasquez singled to lead off the fourth inning and scored on a RBI single by Diosdado.

Both teams continue competition on Monday, Feb. 8. ELAC will host Golden West at 3 p.m. and RCC will visit Mt. San Antonio College in a 4 p.m. first pitch.
