Mt. San Antonio Socks Three Consecutive Homers in 12-9 win over host Riverside City Saturday

Mt. San Antonio Socks Three Consecutive Homers in 12-9 win over host Riverside City Saturday

RIVERSIDE -- The Mt. San Antonio College (MSAC) Mounties came from behind thrice, the last with a seven-run seventh inning -- highlighted by three consecutive home runs -- en route to a 12-9 nonconference win over the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's softball team Saturday (Apr. 11) afternoon at Brown Field (Evans Sports Cmplex).

Mt. San Antonio (26-10 overall), which trailed, 1-0, after the first inning, and 4-1 after three innings, rolled a "four spot" in the top of the sixth, only to see RCC trump that with a five-run uprising in the bottom of the sixth before MSAC erupted in the seventh to turn the game around.

MSAC pinch hitter Celina Felix socked a three-run home run to give the Mounties a 10-9 lead in the top of the seventh. The nest two batters -- Anise Avalos and Miranda Peralts -- crushed solo shots to account for the 12-9 final score.

Riverside (10-24 overall) took a short-lived 7-5 lead in the sixth when frosh catcher Hunter LaCroix (Norco / Norco HS) socked a bases-loaded single about one foot below the top of the right-center field fence.to chase home a pair of Tigers and break a 5-5 tie. Two runs later scored on a bases-loaded walk and an infield error. LaCroix went four for four, scored twice and drove in three runs to pace RCC.

MSAC reliever Anissa Sanchez finished the game and notched the victory to improve to 12-3. Peralta went four for five to pace the Mounties.

RCC sophomore starting RHP Alexis Holman (Riverside / John W. North HS) went the first four innings, scattered five hits and allowed one run (earned) and left leading, 4-1. In came frosh RHP Magen Luna (San Bernardino / A.B  Miller HS), who went the next 2-1/3 innings, but she allowed ten hits and ten runs (all earned) before Holman returned and allowed the round tripper to Peralta. Luna was debited with the loss (5-11).

Both teams return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 14. MSAC visits the Long Beach City College Vikings in a South Coast Conference game at 3 p.m. RCC will host the Palomar College Comets in a nonconference game beginning at 5 p.m.
