Tigers Post 10-1 Win over Antelope Valley Thursday

RIVERSIDE -- A trio of Tigers each delivered a two-run base hit and the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's fastpitch softball team reached the .500 mark with a 10-1 nonconference win over the visiting Antelope Valley College (AVC) Marauders Thursday afternoon (Feb. 12) at Brown Field (Evans Sports Complex).

Riverside (3-3 overall) posted three runs in the first inning, two tallies in the second inning and a single score in the third inning to lead 6-0. After AVC got on the scoreboard with a run in the fourth, the Tigers saw four score in the bottom of the fifth and the game ended via the eight-run mercy rule.

Frosh designated player Hunter LaCroix (Norco / Norco HS) drilled a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning to give RCC a 3-0 lead. Sophomore RF Stephanie Gutierrez (Riverside / M.L. King HS) socked a two-run single to start the scoring in the bottom of the fifth to give the Tigers an 8-1. Moments later, sophomore CF Michelle Paul (Norco / Norco HS) clubbed a two-run double to right field to end the game with the final score at 10-1.

Starting sophomore RHP Alexis Holman (Riverside / John W. North HS) went the first 4.0 innings and allowed two hits, one run (earned), walked three and struck out one. Frosh RHP Magen Luna (San Bernardino / A.B. Miller HS) came on in relief to start the top of the fifth and finished the game.

Tawnee Hagre had two of the three hits for Antelope Valley (2-5-1 overall). Starting RHP Maria "Mia" Acosta lasted only two-thirds of the first inning and allowed two hits, three runs (all earned) and three walks as her record fell to 1-4.

Riverside will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 14, when it visits the College of the Desert Roadrunners in a nonconference game beginning at 2 p.m. AVC will be idle until Feb. 17, when it visits the Santa Ana College Dons in a nonconference game.
