Valenzuela Triples Twice to Help Tigers Throttle Fullerton, 4-1

RIVERSIDE --  Jessica Valenzuela went three for three with two triples and three RBI to pace the Riverside City College Tigers women's fastpitch softball team to a 4-1 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) home win over the Fullerton College Hornets Friday afternoon (Feb. 21) at Brown Field (Evans Sports Complex).

Sophomore RF Austin Schmidt (Riverside / Notre Dame HS) also had two hits, including a double for Riverside (6-2, 3-0 OEC). Breanna Valles drew three walks and scored twice for the Tigers.

RHP Bailey Powell went the distance (7.0 innings) and allowed one run (earned) on seven hits with two walks and nine strikeouts and saw her record improve to 3-2.

Alex Avila had two hits for Fullerton (8-4, 0-3 OEC), including a RBI single in the fifth to drive in the Hornets' only run. RHP Alyssa Felipe also went the distance (6.0 innings) and allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits and five walks. She struck out two.

Riverside will next compete tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 22, when it hosts the Cuesta College Cougars in a non-conference game beginning at 3 p.m. Fullerton will be idle until Tuesday, Feb. Feb. 25, when it hosts the Antelope Valley College Marauders in a non-conference game at 2:30 p.m.
