Riverside Races to Perfect Score (15) to Win Inaugural Riverside Flying Tigers Invite Friday

RIVERSIDE -- Running to a perfect score, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's cross country team won its second meet of the season (in five starts) at inaugural Riverside Flying Tigers Invitational at the City of Riverside course Friday morning (Oct. 9).

The Tigers are currently ranked No. 2 in Southern California.

Riverside posted a team score of 15 points over the 4.0-mile course. RCC was followed by the West Los Angeles College (WLAC) Wildcats (50 points), the College of the Desert Roadrunners (88), and Chaffey College (106).

RCC had the top five finishers, led by freshman Joshua Silva (Corona / Corona HS '15), who won the race (21:55.60) in a field of 61 runners, followed by sophomore Jeronimo Brito (Corona / La Sierra HS '14), who was second overall (22:02.21), freshman Anthony Arvizu (Temecula / Great Oak HS '15), who was third overall (22:02.31), freshman Michael Simpson (Moreno Valley / Canyon Springs HS '15), who was fourth overall (22:13.80), and freshman Chris Malloy (Murrieta / Vista Murrieta HS '15), who was fifth overall (22:19.56).

"I am really pleased that the guys ran well today after having a tough last two weeks of workouts," said RCC ninth-year head cross country coach Jim McCarron. "They followed the race plan as they have all season long.

"It was nice to sophomore Drew Coupe (12th overall, 23:07.75) have a great race today jumping into the team's top 10 (ninth Tiger)," continued McCarron. "We will spend the next two weeks building volume and intensity to prepare for the last three meets of the season."

RCC's next meet will be on Friday, October 30, at the Orange Empire Conference Championships at Irvine Regional Park at 9 a.m.
