RCC Racers Take Third at Cal Baptist-hosted Lancer Invite Friday

RIVERSIDE -- Opening its 2015 campaign as a "visiting" team on its own home course, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's cross country team took third place at the Lancer Invitational which was hosted by California Baptist University (CBU) on RCC's home course Friday (Sept. 4).

RCC's new home course is located at 1077 Orange Street in downtown Riverside, adjacent to the RCC campus.

CBU won the six-kilometer race with a team score of 19, followed by Azusa Pacific University (48), RCC (84) and Concordia U., Irvine (89). Chaffey College, competing with only three runners, did not place.

CBU junior Valentin Robert won the race with a time of 18:47.81.

RCC's top finisher was sophomore Dennis Gonzalez (Cathedral City HS '14), who was 17th overall (19:43.25), followed by Rolando Phalen (Southlands HS), who was 19th overall (19:47.26), Joshua Silva (Corona HS), who was 21st overall (19:50.56), Anthony Arvizu (Great Oak HS), who was 23rd overall (19:58.04), and sophomore Jeronimo Brito (La Sierra HS '14), who was 29th overall (20:16.80).

RCC sophomore Hector Ruiz (Carter HS '14) finished 30th overall (20:20.36) and Chris Malloy (Vista Murrieta HS) was 31st overall (20:27.41).

Riverside will next be in action on Friday, Sept. 11, when it participates in the annual UCR Invitational which is run on the UC Riverside campus.
