Riverside Races to Twelfth Place Finish at CCCAA State Championships

FRESNO -- Finishing twelfth out of 28 teams at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Men's Cross Country Championships last Saturday (Nov. 22) at Woodward Park, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's cross country squad compiled 358 points to finish its season.

College of the Canyons snapped a 39-year drought and won the meet with 79 points, followed by American Rivers College (88 points),  Orange Coast College (157 points), Mt. San Antonio College (170 points) and San Bernardino Valley College (202 points) to round out the top five.

Hartnell College sophomore Diego Leon won the four-mile race with a time of 20:09.4.

Leading the way for RCC was sophomore Doug Negrete (Chino / La Verne-Damien '13), who was 34th overall (21:02.1). Next was freshman Jeronimo Brito (Corona / La Sierra '14), who was 62nd overall (21:33.0), freshman Dennis Gonzalez (Cathedral City / Cathedral City '14), who was 83rd overall (21:46.3), freshman Anthony Munoz (Riverside / La Sierra '14), who was 102nd overall (21:59.3), and freshman Hector Ruiz (Rialto / Wilmer A. Carter '14), who was 117th overall (22:10.4).

RCC sophomore Antonio Rivera (Indio / Indio '12) was 135th overall (22:23.6) and freshman Heliodoro Rodriguez (Indio / Indio '14) was 184th overall (23:18.0).
