Tigers Runners Take Fifth at Brubaker Invite Friday

IRVINE -- Posting a fifth-place finish, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's cross country squad ran well at the Howard Brubaker Invitational Meet, which was hosted by Santa Ana College at Irvine Regional Park Friday (Oct. 10).

Riverside (160 points) finished behind the first-place San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) Wolverines (51 points), the second-place Saddleback College (SC) Gauchos (89), the third-place Southwestern College (SWC) Jaguars (100 points) and the fourth-place El Camino College (ECC) Warriors (125 points).

Leading the way for RCC was (pictured) sophomore Doug Negrete (Chino / La Verne-Damien '13), who was 18th overall (21:41.9). Next was freshman Anthony Munoz (Riverside / La Sierra '14), who was 31st overall (22:03.7), followed by freshman Hector Ruiz (Rialto / Carter '14), who was 33rd overall (22:05.6), freshman Julio Martinez (Eastvale / Eleanor Roosevelt '14), who was 36th for the Tigers (22:18.7), and freshman Jeronimo Brito (Corona / La Sierra '14), who was 43rd overall (22:31.6).

"The remainder of the season should be exciting with some key matchups looming, especially our (Orange Empire) Conference championships," said RCC head coach Jim McCarron. "The men continue to pack their top five close."

The Tigers next compete at the Mt. San Antonio Invitational Meet on the MSAC campus in Walnut on Friday, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m.
