Tigers Runners Place Fifth at Golden West Invitational Friday (Sept. 26)

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Posting a fifth-place finish despite missing a few key runners, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's cross country squad did well at the Golden West (College) Invitational at Central Park last Friday (Sept. 26).

Riverside (172 points) finished behind first-place College of the Canyons (34 points), second-place Mt. San Antonio College (82), third-place Saddleback College (114) and fourth-place Glendale (164).

Leading the way for RCC was freshman Willie Raus (Murrieta Mesa '14), who finished 25th overall (21:05.3). Next for the Tigers were sophomore Doug Negrete (Chino / La Verne -Damien '13), who was 30th overall (21:14.0), freshman Hector Ruiz (Rialto / Carter '14), who was 35th overall (21:20.7), freshman Heliodoro Rodriguez (Indio / Indio '14), who was 39th overall (21:23.4), and sophomore Antonio Rivera (Indio / Indio '12), who was 43rd overall (21:27.7).  Freshman Julio Martinez (Eastvale / Eleanor Roosevelt '14) was sixth for the Tigers (52nd overall, 21:37.7).

"We look forward to a 'bye' week to train," said RCC head coach Jim McCarron. "The remainder of the season should be exciting with some key matchups looming, especially our (Orange Empire) Conference championships in early November.  We were pleased with the packing of both men's and women's teams. The men continue to place their top five pack close.

The Tigers next compete at the Brubaker Invite at Irvine Regional Park on Friday, Nov. 10, at 9 a.m.
