Men’s Water Polo’s Late Game Push Falls Short in Conference Play

The Riverside City College men's water polo team had a tall task on hand as they hosted the No. 5 Orange Coast College Pirates in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action. The Tigers came out swinging by taking a one-goal lead into the second quarter. However, as the game progress, the offense dwindled down the stretch leading to a 17-12 defeat.

With the latest loss, Riverside had now dropped their last 12th consecutive game and has gone winless in the month of October.

Two low-scoring quarters haunted the Tigers down the stretch as they netted two goals each in the second and third quarters. They began to heat up in the fourth quarter as they pulled within two goals, but a 4-1 run from Orange Coast to close out the game was the final nail in the coffin.

Sophomore Relja Mitic was the main offensive weapon after firing home four scores, but he coughed the ball up six times. Sophomore duo Louis Grandi and Tommy Dempsey followed with three scores each, while Grandi paced the defense with four steals and five drawn ejections. Freshman Connor Lynton zeroed in for three steals to round out the highlights.

Sophomore Seth Zarn went the distance between the pipes to earn seven saves, but picked up his sixth loss on the season.
