Men's Water Polo Falls in Southern Regional Quarterfinals

It was tough sledding for the eighth ranked Riverside City College men's water polo team as they faced off against the top-seeded Golden West College Rustlers on Friday morning in the quarterfinals of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern Regional Championship. Golden West captured an early four-goal lead and never looked back leading to a 15-6 loss for the Tigers.

Golden West outscored Riverside 10-1 in the first half and allowed them no opportunities to gain ground in the second half. The Tigers and the Rustlers traded five goals each in the second half, nut the deficit was too large to overcome.

Freshman Tanner Childress lead the Tigers in scoring for the first time this season compliments of two late fourth quarter goals. Freshman Louis Grandi scored one goal and pocketed a team-high three steals, while freshman tandem Colin Tormey and Reese Starkey each recorded an assist.

Starkey added two drawn ejections, while freshman Sebestian De la Pena-Kenley matched his output.

Riverside ends their season with an overall record of 11-16 which includes their 15th-straight regional playoff berth and a fourth-place finish in the OEC Championships last week.
