Grandi’s Nine Netters Lead Tigers to Conference Win

It was nothing but smooth sailing for the Riverside City College men's water polo team as they took on the Fullerton College Hornets on the road for the first Orange Empire Conference (OEC) showing of the season. Despite being tied after the opening quarter, the Tigers busted away in the second and never looked back leading to a 16-7 win.

Second quarter dominance was the ultimate story as the Tigers held the Hornets scoreless while netting five goals. They went on to outscore Fullerton 9-5 in the second half.

Freshman Louis Grandi lived at the back of the net throughout the contest as he hummed home a career high nine goals. He was a part of 10 scores by recoding one assist as well. Additionally, he snatched two steals.

Sophomore Jared Salas and freshman Reese Starkey got in on the action as they netted two goals each. Starkey paced the defensive brigade with six steals, while freshman Tommy Dempsey followed with five.

Freshman Seth Zarn earn the start in goal and recorded his first career win. He had just two saves in a light night. He recorded three steals as well.

Riverside (3-4, 1-0) will continue conference action and play at home for the first time in nearly two years on Wednesday, September 22 against Cypress College at 3 p.m.
