Men’s Water Polo Kicks Off Season at Inland Empire Classic

The Riverside City College men's water polo team kicked off its 2019 season by participating in the Inland Empire Classic this past weekend. The Tigers went 1-3 on the weekend highlighted by a strong 15-6 victory over NAIA Ottowa University.

The Tigers found themselves in a dogfight in the morning game on Sunday against Ottowa. The contest went blow-for-blow as both teams scored an equal amount of goals through the first three periods. The deciding period occurred in the final eight minutes.

Sophomore Trevor Carroll had the offense clicking as he assisted three of the Tiger's five goals in the final quarter. After freshman Vincenzo Inguanta got the ball rolling for an early score, Carrol assisted on goals at the hands of sophomore trio Ethan Saenz, Juan Sosa and Kenny Wulf, respectively.

Inguanta capped the strong period with a score thus handing RCC a 16-12 win.

Wulf had a monstrous game as he has proven early to be an offensive catalyst. He finished with five goals and a pair of steals. Throughout the weekend, he scored 12 goals, 12 steals and two assists.

Inguanta followed with four goals and an assist, while Saenz netted a pair of scores, dished out three assists and recorded a steal.

Sophomore Leonardo Monges earned his fist victory of the year after hauling in eight saves and recording two assists.

Riverside (1-3) will host the Fullerton College Hornets on Wednesday, September 18 at 3 p.m. in their Orange Empire Conference (OEC) opener. Watch the game live on Riverside Athletics YouTube Channel.
