Riverside Pushes Winning Streak to Three Games at Cuesta Invitational

The Riverside City College men's water polo team continued action in Bakersfield, CA at the Cuesta Invitational on Friday. After hauling in a victory over Fullerton College for their first Orange Empire Conference (OEC) victory of the season last Wednesday, the Tigers pushed their winning streak to three games with victories over American River and West Valley College by the final scores of 16-7 and 10-9, respectively.

The Tigers began the day with a commanding victory over American River. They lead wire-to-wire highlighted by netting six goals in the opening quarter. They capped the contest by outscoring American River, 5-2, in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Norbert Kovacs was an offensive machine by netting six goals to pace the team. Freshman Kenny Wolf backed him with a trio of goals while pocketing two steals. Freshman Ty Narramore chipped in two goals to go along with a game-high four steals.

Sophomore Alexis Gutierrez facilitated most of the offense as seen in three assists. He drew three ejections as well.

Freshman goalkeeping tandem Leonardo Monges and David Romero manned the cage. Monges led the way with five saves, while Romero earned three.

Riverside continued on to defeat West Valley in a closer contest. Kovacs carted his hot play into the second game of the day with four goals. Gutierrez matched his output with four goals of his own while drawing four ejections. Sophomore Andrew Serrano chipped in a pair of scores as well.

Monges started the entire game and earned a season-high and career-high 14 saves.

Riverside (4-3, 1-0 OEC) continue action tomorrow in the Cuesta Invitational with contests against Long Beach City College and Cuesta College.
