Men’s Water Polo Dominated in Saturday Play at Golden West Tournament

The Riverside City College men's water polo squad hit the road for four games this past weekend in the Golden West Tournament. After dropping two games on Friday, the Tigers rebounded nicely to haul in victories over American River and Cerritos, respectfully.
Game Three – American River vs. Riverside
The Tigers faced off against American River for the second time this season and looked to keep the undefeated streak against them rolling. They did just that highlighted by a six-goal outburst in the second frame en route to the victory.
The second and third quarters were the strongest for Riverside as they outscored ARC 11-2 in that span.
A trio of players found themselves with three goals. The most effective weapon came in the form of freshman driver Norbert Kovacs (Budapest) as he fired home three score to go along with two assists and two steals. Sophomore driver Hunter Starkey (San Bernardino, CA) and freshman attacker Bo Loftin (Mira Loma, CA) matched their teammate's output with three goals each.
Freshman driver Alexis Gutierrez (Mira Loma, CA) had a strong showing by dishing out two assists, pocketing two steals, and drawing an ejection.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kristopher McVeigh (Riverside, CA) earned 10 saves as well.
Game Four – Cerritos vs. Riverside
The Tigers was in control the entire game against Cerritos by defeating them by 13-3. They opened up the contest by grabbing a four-score advantage and never looked back.
After the scoreboard read 1-1 in the early stages, the Tigers went on a 4-0 run grab a sizable advantage. Loftin kicked off the scoring, backed by goals from Starkey, Kovacs, and Gutierrez, respectfully, to make their presence felt early.
The trio of Loftin, Kovacs, and Gutierrez struck once again in the second frame, but they went scoreless in the third quarter to make things interesting entering into the final frame.
Nevertheless, the Tigers outscored the Falcons in the final frame, 5-0, behind to goals from Loftin en route to the win.
McVeigh picked up his second win of the tournament by racking up 12 total saves for his 11th win of the season.
The Tigers finish up regular season and conference play on Wednesday, October 25th against Golden West on the road.
