Men’s Water Polo Splits in Non-Conference Double Header

The Riverside City College men's water polo team hosted a pair of nonconference competitors on Friday in the form of the Long Beach City College Vikings and the Grossmont College Griffiths at the Riverside Aquatics Complex. After being narrowly edged by the Vikings, 11-10, in a heated morning showdown, the Tigers rebounded to route the Griffiths by the final score of 16-5 in the afternoon game.

The Tigers were not gun shy in both contests by firing home a combined 26 goals on the day. In the victory, the offense featured goals from eight different players that put them back in the win column after losing five of their last six games by a lone score.

Freshman driver Bo Loftin (Mira Loma, CA) paced the pack by netting four goals in the game to go along with four steals on the defensive end. He made his presence know right away by scoring two of his four netters in the first frame. Sophomore driver Tyler Strabel (Lake Elsinore, CA) matched his teammate's efforts with a four-goal game as well.

Sophomore center Artrell Winchell (San Bernardino, CA) and freshman driver Alexis Gutierrez (Mira Loma, CA) each fired home two scores, while Gutierrez added a pair of steals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kristopher McVeigh (Riverside, CA) earned his seventh win in the cage after playing four quarters and hauling in seven saves.

The Tigers (7-11, 1-2 OEC) will continue action on Wednesday, October 18th for a conference matchup against the Fullerton College Hornets at home at 3 p.m.
