Tigers Win Twice Friday in First Day's Action at Golden West Tournament #2

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Coming up with a pair of big victories, the visiting Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's water polo defeated the Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) Monarchs, 9-4, and then edged the Cerritos College Falcons, 10-9, in a pair of games Friday (Oct. 21) at the Golden West Tournament #2.

Against Cerritos, Riverside City (16-5 overall) trailed, 3-1, at the end of the first quarter, but then roared back, outscoring the Falcons, 6-0, in the second quarter to lead, 7-3, at halftime. The Tigers led, 8-6, heading into the fourth quarter.

Sophomore utility player Kyle Christian (Riverside / M.L. King HS '15), sophomore driver Lazar Raca (Belgrade, SERBIA / Sports School '15) -- who is pictured -- and freshman center Artrell Winchell (San Bernardino / Cajon HS '16) each scored two goals for RCC. Raca had a team-high three steals. Freshman goalkeeper Kristopher McVeigh (Riverside / Riverside Poly HS '16) played the entire game and had six saves and two steals.

Against L.A. Valley (4-14 overall), Raca, sophomore driver Jesse Mondragon (Riverside / Ramona HS '15), freshman driver Pedro Osorio (San Bernardino / Cajon HS '16) and sophomore driver Jesus Osorio (San Bernardino / Cajon HS '15) each scored two goals. Five Tigers tallied two steals each. McVeigh had four saves for RCC.

Riverside will continue tournament action on Saturday, Oct. 22, with games against host GWC and Long Beach City College in the championship bracket. Game times were not available at the time of this posting.
